Prediction of Liquid Holdup in Large Diameter Tubing
(175 pages- Chapter V)
Directed by: Dr. Z. Schmidt
(105 words)

The goal and achievement of this thesis is the measurement of downhole liquid holdup. An instrument was designed, constructed, and field tested using gamma densitometry to monitor holdup. To the author's knowledge, this is the first time holdup has been measured at depth in a well. This thesis describes the construction and operation of this device in detail, and presents a limited amount of data correlating holdups measured by it with those predicted by various standard liquid holdup prediction methods. Computer programs were developed for this comparison as well as for stability analysis of the experimental system and source code listings are located in the appendix.
